Hi long time lurker. And own 2000 tl 10/10 can confirm these transmissions love to grenade. At 260k miles mine bit the dust had it rebuilt that died 2 more times until I swapped a 07 accord which bolts right up in. Great car otherwise.

it was only the autos that had the issues. manuals were fine.

I was under the impression they did. quick google shows they did not.

it was the 5 speeds that had problems. 4 speeds were fine.

You have a 3.0 right? I assume there is known issues? I haven’t had problems with the J32, nor have I seen a ton of “THIS ENGINE IS GONNA BLOW” kind of threads

Well... I’m assuming the recalls have fixed known issues, but I’m still not sure. It’s a fantastic engine, and I love the car, but I dunno.

That’s a shame because I love my TL just not the transmission. Let’s just say I was pretty good at pulling the Trans out in my garage on stands. The only thing I can say is to wait it out and save up for an 07 accord transmission. It’s solved all my problems. And honestly it’s made it this far it won’t fail for a long time.

The j32 is a great motor for a v6. Unfortunately the manual swap is way too expensive and intensive to do.

It amazes me that Honda has fit 9 gears in to an automatic transmission even though they still haven’t figured out how to build them right with 5 or 6 gears.

I just don’t want to have to dump money int a AV6 swap, especially considering I lack the knowledge and space to do it myself so labor is not cheap
